Las Salinas – the Salt Flats

One of Ibiza’s most famous sights. The salt flats on the most southerly part of the island have been used for 2000 years. When the water evaporates in summer, a dazzlingly white layer of pure salt is left behind at the bottom of the lakes. Las Salinas are a wonderful backdrop for spectacular photographs at sunset and they give an overwhelming impression of the history of the trade in “white gold” that gave Ibiza its nickname of “the white island”. Moreover, Las Salinas is a paradise for birds, including flamingos.
